GTA San Andreas Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, often abbreviated as GTA:SA or GTA San Andreas, is a PlayStation 2 video game and the fifth title in the Grand Theft Auto series. The game was developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It was released in October 2004 for the PlayStation 2 console. The development was led by Mike Dailly and Leslie Benzies, who also worked on Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City respectively.[1] Dan Houser wrote one of the chapters in the video game.[2] In a punning reference to a well-known American sitcom about a dysfunctional family "living together under one roof," this installment is entitled "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. San Andreas is represented to be set in the year 1992, and the city of San Andreas became a state sometime in 1992. The game is played from a third-person perspective and its world is navigated on foot or by vehicle. The single-player story follows Carl "CJ" Johnson (voiced by Chris Bellard) returning home to Los Santos after living for five years in Liberty City, following his mothers release from prison. Upon his return home, CJ discovers that San Andreas has been devastated by a terrorist attack, and that crime has become rampant during the ensuing chaos. The game sees the player explore the fictional "South Central" neighborhood of Los Santos. The developers recreated many landmarks of Los Angeles (and California) in their game, including Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills and Hollywood. The game's plot is multi-linear, with two main characters the player can switch between at certain points in the story. The two characters are Carl "CJ" Johnson, returning home to Los Santos from Liberty City after five years, and his brother Sweet, who now runs the Grove Street Families gang. Besides the usual Grand Theft Auto gameplay of cars and shooting, San Andreas also includes elements and locations such as: parachuting (based on a similar feature of GTA III), swimming (based on a similar feature in GTA Vice City), and more sophisticated character progression (e.g., learning martial arts techniques). There are two types of single-player modes in San Andreas. The first is "Story", where the player explores the game world, acquires new missions, completes them, and eventually progresses through the storyline. The second is called "Free Roam", where there are no missions to be completed, but there are unlimited opportunities to have fun. The player may switch between any of the three main characters at any time when not engaged in a cutscene. With one exception, the three protagonists do not usually appear together in one scene until toward the end of the game. eccc085e13
